4 Things to Know About the Health Management Program

As we kick off the 2015 Health Management program, you’ll soon receive lots of information about how to get started. That makes now a good time to share why we offer it and why you should join in. Here are four key things to know.

  1. We offer it because your health is important. As you know, the health decisions you make now affect your ability to stay healthy and prevent disease down the road. The Health Management program motivates you to make good health decisions—like moving more or eating better—by giving support, providing fun challenges and offering incentives so you’re more likely to stick with it.
  2. Our weight is a problem. According to StayWell, obesity is our number one health issue, affecting 7 out of 10 employees. Given that obesity can lead to heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer—conditions that can be costly to treat—it’s important to reduce that risk. That’s why the Health Management program focuses heavily on exercise and nutrition.
  3. The program is working. Employees who’ve participated in the Health Management program are healthier today than they were years ago. In fact, they’ve reduced their cumulative total health risk by 9.5%! Over the past year, we’ve also seen improvements in exercise and nutrition. If we keep it up, we could see improvements in our overall weight, too.
  4. It pays to participate. In addition to the health benefits, you can earn up to $450 off your 2016 medical premiums when you complete all three steps of the program (Take Action activityhealth screening and Health Risk Questionnaire) before 2015 ends.
